500 Error on Plugin Activation

Whenever I install and activate this plugin the whole website gets a 500 error.
The only way to remove the 500 error is to login via FTP or open IIS and delete the Plugin folder for The Event Calendar.

Is there a way I can determine the cause of this and get it working?

I would like to use it as part of our internal staff portal as a public leave calendar.
